New for 2021!!

Changes to 10, 7, 5 class for 2021 There will be a mandatory draw class in the 10, 7, & 5 -If you are entered in any of these classes, you will have one mandatory draw. Therefore you may have three draw classes per day if entered in each class. -You may enter all draw if you wish -Maximum number of runs in each class is 4 including the mandatory draw (so enter accordingly- ie if you want to run 4 times in class, enter 3 and one will be mandatory) -Benefits – allows riders to ride with other competitors and helps with people looking for teams, offers a larger pool to draw from.

2+ team will continue for 2021 2+ will continue for 2021 Benefit- encourages new riders to enjoy the sport with little pressure.   Ten incentive The incentive would be 1 second (last year was ½ second) per rating below 10. I.e. if 8 class enters 10, they will have a 2-second reduction on their time. Benefit- increases opportunity in ten for all rated riders and helps grow the class.

New Members offer

MTPA will pay the MTPA & CTCPA membership for any new members or past members that have not penned in 2019. (as no penning 2020)

Please complete the attached membership form. If you have never been a member you will need to be rated so please contact us about New Member CTCPA Classification form. (Posted on Manitoba Team Penning under members).

New for 2019

10 INCENTIVE CLASS

Ten Class will be run with a half second time incentive per number. This means that for each team that enters the Ten class and their team does not equal 10, the team will get a half second off per go for every number less than 10. Example:

  • 10 team-no handicap applied per go
  • 9 team-.5 second handicap per go
  • 8 team-1 second handicap per go
  • 7 team-1.5 second handicap per go
  • Time incentive is calculated similarly all the way down to a 3 team.

The time incentive will be subtracted from the time of the run after the first go to determine the order of the second go. The time incentive will be subtracted from the time of the second go and then added to the times of the first go to determine the placing in the class.

A brand new class for 2019

2 PLUS 1 CLASS

Teams entered in this class must have two Number 1 rated riders with a number 3 or higher rider. Teams can be entered beforehand or be drawn as a team. For every team entered (picked), riders must do one draw team. (A draw team in the 2 plus 1 class does not preclude participation in the mandatory draw in other classes). The maximum number of rides will be set at pick 2, draw 2.

Format/Rules

This class will be run like a junior youth class i.e. the two lower number riders would have to pull all three cows out. The higher rider could only go in the herd if a cow goes back in.

Lower number riders can enter all their teams as draw runs (If Open rider has a pick team they would have to do a Draw Run.

Novice rider would be considered a #1 for this class

Class would run at 75 seconds

Higher numbered rider will ride at a reduced entry fee

We will be finalizing some more of the details in this class at our February meeting, such as the payout schedule and where in the day this class will fit in.

These changes in the class schedule were implemented in an effort to create more opportunity for our newer or lower numbered riders to ride with or against higher numbered riders, thus improving their skill.

FYI : For any new members, they will not be in the drop-down list and will not be able to enter their teams online until CTCPA has their memberships. Once MTPA receives the membership, it will be forwarded to CTCPA and they will be provided with a rating number and place them into the online entry system. If their name is not in the drop-down list, they will need to contact Arlene to enter teams for the show. Text 204-392-2538 or email mtpapenning@hotmail.com.

SHOOT OUT:

Championship shootout at the finals will be held for the 5, 7 and 8 classes, with the winners of each class in the regular season shows getting one entry to the shootout. Teams that want to ride in the Championship class that don’t qualify can buy in at $200 rider for 8, $150 for 7 and $100 for the 5 class. Buy in teams must had ridden 3 shows during the year. 80% of the raised money (sponsorship and entries) will go to payout. 20% of the raised money will go to the cattle costs for the Finals weekend.

SORT ARENA –

For the 2019 season, MTPA will be using a new system called Sort Arena, to run our shows.
This program is state of the art and will assist in running our shows smoother and faster.
Along with making things easier and quicker for our secretary, it will also update riders on show results, during and immediately following the show. We will also eventually be videoing our shows and you will be able to watch your runs through the website.

We ask that all members create a Profile by going to the website
www.Sortarena.com.
Once on the site, there are many videos to watch, for your entertainment.
(Check to see how many riders you recognize).
Click on “Get Started Now” and create a New Rider Account.
Creating an account is Free and you will be able to track and analyze how you did at the shows. This will be on your account when the show is complete.
SortArena also has an annual membership option ($59.00 US). Should you decide to want this option, it will allow you to receive text messages, at
the show, with your class rosters, your class standings, and your class
results. You will also receive personal ride videos when MTPA implements the video option of SortArena.

Be sure to set up your account, in SortArena, prior to the first show, so
your Rider Dashboard will be updated for your entire season.

Note: Entering your teams, for each show, will continue as before, using
penning.ca

What is Team Penning?

During the last decade, Team Penning has taken the horse world by storm. People from all walks of life are competing on all breeds of horses. No cowboy background is necessary to Team Pen, just saddle up and head’em for the pen! It is a sport in which the entire family can participate.

The concept of Team Penning is three riders attempt to separate three identically numbered cattle from a herd of approximately 30 milling cattle, drive them the length of the arena, and then attempt to corral them in the pen; hence, the name “Team Penning”. To add excitement and crowd appeal, this feat must be completed within a designated time frame, and of course, the fastest time wins. As you can well imagine, uncooperative cattle, fast horses and howling participants ensure enormous crowd appeal.

The roots of Team Penning are steeped in western heritage, back to the days of cattle drives. It has developed into a sport in which anyone who can ride a horse can participate. Team Penning offers the opportunity to enjoy our western roots and enjoy the company of some of the finest folks that ever wore boots!
